1. The Antarctic is at such a low latitude that the Sun's rays strike at a low angle of incidence, causing the rays to spread widely. This means that even with more hours of sunshine there is very little heat per unit area of land. 2. Since nearly the entire continent and much of the surrounding sea is covered in ice most of the suns rays are reflected from the surface preventing the energy from being used to heat things up. |

Antarctica is colder than any place else on the Earth, including the Arctic, why is that?
